I have a 2005 Hyndai Elantra, it has been running great. The battery recently died so i bought a "refurbished" battery and installed it myself (proberly not the best idea, but i had no choice..) I initially put the battery in backwards, connected the cables and tried to start the car.. nothing happened, no sounds or anything.. then i figured out that I had put it in backwards.. I took it out and put it back in the right way and connected everything.. however.. when i tried to start the car it sounded like the battery was dead, when turning the key it made that clicky sound it makes when you need a jump start. I had someone jump start the car but it had to be jumped 7 times to get about 4 miles down the road. Did i damage the car by putting the battery in backwards or is it maybe a bad alternator? Just trying to figure out where to start.. I appreciate any advise or guidence! Thanks

Think about it,the reason why you needed a battery was because the 1st one was low in voltage.
Puting it in backwards can cause a fuse or fusible link to blow, aparently in your case it did not because is actually runing.

Here are some tips that can help find the problem.

1.look to see if the alternator belt is there
2.check your terminals at the battery for corosion,or loosness
2.check your fuses(using a 12 volt test light or meter.
3.Check the cable that is in back of alt... to the battery.
4.While the car is runing check for voltage using the + - with a volt meter it should be 12.6 volts or more at 1000 rpms.
13.I do not recommend pulling off terminals while the car is runing.
